Round 10: Tossup 11

A G minor concerto for two of these instruments was written by Antonio Vivaldi. Friedrich (10[2])Grützmacher (10[1])(“GROOTZ-mock-er”) arranged a B flat major concerto for this instrument to fit the style of a romantic concerto, one of twelve by Luigi Boccherini. Whilst playing between an E and an F sharp on one of these instruments, one might hear a wolf tone. This is the highest (10[1])of the two (-5[1])standard orchestral instruments to use thumb position. Pablo Casals popularized a set of six suites for this instrument (-5[1])by J. S. Bach, the first of which features a G major prelude. Unlike other instruments in its section, this instrument is played sitting down with the aid (10[1])of a spike. (10[1])For 10 points, name this string instrument pitched between viola and double bass. ■END■ (10[3])
