A G minor concerto for two of these instruments was written by Antonio Vivaldi. Friedrich Grützmacher (“GROOTZ-mock-er”) arranged a B flat major concerto for this instrument to fit the style of a romantic concerto, one of twelve by Luigi Boccherini. Whilst playing between an E and an F sharp on one of these instruments, one might hear a wolf tone. This is the highest of the two standard orchestral instruments to use thumb position. Pablo (10[1])Casals popularized a set of six suites for this instrument by (-5[1])J. S. Bach, the first of (10[1])which features a G major prelude. Unlike other instruments in its section, this instrument is played sitting down with the aid of a spike.
